Nativity Scene (Plan No. 7) “We have set this up for approximately 36 years. Four sets of paper have been used. We have received many wonderful comments yearly. This year, it made the local newspapers. What a testimony!” Billy Johnson
Rocking Horse (Plan No. 56) “My husband so much enjoys his woodwoking, especially the projects for grandchildren. Your plans make many happy memories!” Mrs. John W. Baker (Mr. & Mrs. Baker saw the Rocking Horse project in the Glens Falls Post Star.)
Table & Chairs (Plan No. 103) Will Weiss
Rigid Frame Cabin (Plan No. 370) “Six years ago we bought some property in Little Harbour, Great Abaco Island, Bahamas. On the property were two houses built sometime in the late 1960s. We have always marvelled at the stability and utility of these two houses and wondered where [the builders] had gotten the plans. Imagine my surprise when I looked in the St. Pete Times this morning and saw a picture of "my house" in an article! I thought you guys would like to know of two [U-Bild] houses in the Bahamas that have survived nearly 30 years of seaside weather (including hurricanes!).” Oona Fessenden (Ms. Fessenden saw the Rigid Frame Cabin project in the St. Petersburg Times.)
A-Frame Cabin (Plan No. 381) Larry Stover
Grist Mill (Plan No. 456) “All windows have plexiglass in them and all doors open and close. All siding hand made. I just kept adding as I went.” David T. Williamson
Car Bed (Plan No. 502) Roger Sack (Mr. Sack saw the Car Bed project in The Flint Journal.)
Car Bed (Plan No. 502) “Last week I ordered plan No. 502. My husband built the same racing car bed for our son, Brian, in 1979 in Connecticut. It has real truck tires on it. This past February we passed it on to Brian's nephew Luke, who is our first grandson. I am attaching a picture of Brian and Luke stretched out side by side. As you can see, it has remained in great shape after being in storage for 17 years and shipped cross country! I ordered the same plan for friends of ours in Connecticut since my husband did not want to give up his plans!” Norman A Cook
Cedar Chest (Plan No. 572) “This is my first piece of good furniture that I have built and I had a great time. I built this chest for my daughter's 16th birthday and she loves it.” Eric Nelson
Country Cradle (Plan No. 599) “I purchased the country cradle pattern from your website and am just finishing the project. It is my first true furniture project. I added a scrolled design to the headboard and footboard , but your plans were easy to follow and provided the information necessary to make me feel comfortable venturing out on my own. I'm proud to say I built this cradle for our first baby, and thank you for the help.” John Deming
Rocking Cradle (Plan No. 644) “Thought you might like to see a derivation on one of your plans. The plan calls for pine. I used all solid walnut. The carvings were selected and executed by myself. The sitting angel on the headboard, celtic hearts on the front and the traditional headrest pattern set this aside as a truly unique piece. An enjoyable project, a great set of plans! They lent themselves well to artistic licensure and expression.” Wayne W. Reynolds
Heritage Cradle (Plan No. 666) “Success! I was shopping around for the best looking traditional cradle design for my new English grandchild and this was it by a mile. Before I knew of your company I bought your plans through a Midwest retailer who compared to your stock of plans had a very limited range. I had already bought an earlier cradle plan from them but when compared to yours it looked quite clumsy. The bonus with your plan was that it made building the project SOOOO EASY! I raised the footboard slightly in response to my daughter-in-law's request and I also had to lower the roof slightly as I only have a certain amount of 1" thick, real antique Victorian pine shelving salvaged from a local store. I have finished up with an ultra-safe and (everyone agrees) most beautiful rocking cradle that can be found anywhere. This is the only cradle anyone should consider building. It's easy and it's beautiful and it's my first attempt at something like this, which now makes me keen to do more.” Ron Ransom
Two-Door Ice Box (Plan No. 686) “These two projects are my first in 47 years. The last time was in high school!” Harold Paneck (Mr. Paneck saw the Two-Door Ice Box and Pony Rocker projects in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.)
Two-Door Ice Box (Plan No. 686) “Easy to read instructions. Horse was for my newest grandson for Christmas (04). A nice challenge and fun to build. You folks are the best for weekend woodworkers.” Tom Wiggins
Farm-Style Windmill (Plan No. 695) “About a year ago I built the Farm-Style Windmill from the plans you carry. It turned out very well and works great. But I wanted to let you know that this windmill can stand up to hurricane force winds. Last week Hurricane Isabel came through here packing wind of 85 mph. The windmill was still standing after the storm. So between your plans and I guess my building it well it stood wind that took down trees. It was the only item of our outdoor items that I did not take down and the one thing I did not expect to make it. Thanks for having such good plans. It's a credit to your company that the windmill made it through.” Daniel Maloney
One-Door Ice Box (Plan No. 723) “I really enjoyed making it for my wife. This was my first time doing raised panels!” Terry Brown
Blanket Chest (Plan No. 724) “I am a novice at woodworking. Your plans & directions made the finished project look like I had been doing this for years.” Tom LaCroix
Child's Rocker (Plan No. 734) “This is my second woodworking project using your plans. It came out great. Thanks.” Julio Loiacono (Mr. Loiacono saw the Childís Rocker project in the St. Petersburg Times.)
Pony Rocker (Plan No. 738) “The plans and instructions were very easy to follow. The project made a great gift for my one-year-old grandson.” Raymond G. Hulick (Mr. Hulick saw the Pony Rocker project on the internet.)
Donkey Cart Planter (Plan No. 748) “Hi, this plan was so simple. I never did woodwork, I'm sure it looks like I did. Thank you U-Bild.” Art Penna
Precision Tool Chest (Plan No. 788) “Your plans for the Tool Chest were great!” Al Grorud
Blanket Chest & Seat (Plan No. 789) “The plans were easy to follow. It was a joy to build.” Lyle Summers
Blanket Chest & Seat (Plan No. 789) “Still on the novice side of woodworking, I found the U-Bild instructions easy to follow. And the results were great! I've received nothing but fantastic reviews on the bench.” Thanks! John O'Neil
Day Bed (Plan No. 810) “My daughter needed a new bed and we couldn't find one anywhere that suited our needs. I searched the web for day beds and the one I liked was on your site, so I decided to build it. I hadn't worked with wood since graduating high school in 1985, which was kind of scary. But using your plan made it painless and fun! Plus, it was a great reason to buy some new (and much needed) tools with the approval of my wife!” Dan Pusateri
Canopy Glider Swing (Plan No. 818) “Just finished building this swing from your plans. I taught high school woodworking for 5 years and was glad your plans worked so well. I modified the curve on the seat but all the rest built as per plans.” Ted Coons
Jewelry & Lingerie Chest (Plan No. 830) “I would like for you, if possible, to forward this picture to the author of the project. I think he will be happy to know that his plan has been used, and made the happiness of my family.” Fernando Ferreira
Play Structure (Plan No. 839) “A few days ago I received my second order from U-Bild. I ordered two plans: Wishing Well and the Water Wheel. It took the package less than a week to arrive to Israel, and I was so pleased. As I wrote this is my second order and I realized that I did not share with you my first project results; the Play Structure. It took me almost two months to complete it since I worked only during the weekend and complete it 18 months ago. I made some change by changing to ladder steps to be wider and the banister high. I also changed to slide to fiberglass slide instead to wood slide. And the result in front of you. This picture was taken yesterday and as you can see, 18 months after completion my kids still enjoy it.” Eytan Corech
Glider Rocker (Plan No. 853) “My wife, pregnant with our second child, requested a nice rocking chair to relax in. I purchased the U-Bild plans and a week later she had her chair. Plans were very easy to follow and being a novice craftsman, I was amazed that I actually built a rocking chair that works!” John Drago
Lighthouse (Plan No. 860) “Best plans and projects I've seen.” Jacob Brown (Mr. Brown saw the Lighthouse project in the LaPorte Herald Argus.)
Lighthouse (Plan No. 860) “Your plans are easy to follow.” William N. Cunningham
Corner TV Cabinet (Plan No. 864) “I had to write and show you my first U-Bild project. My wife and I couldn't find a corner TV cabinet that we liked. Most were too large or too expensive. I found your plans online and thought I'd give it a shot. It took me 30 hours and just under $200 for a solid oak cabinet! I really enjoyed the project. It's the start of a new hobby for me.” Thanks, Bob Hayes
Small Wishing Well (Plan No. 877) “I love your plans. Very easy.” Clayton Borger
Sewing Cabinet (Plan No. 887) “I'm sending you pictures of the sewing cabinet my husband built using U-Bild plans. We are very pleased with the outcome. He made a few minor changes, including making holes in the support bars to make gripping easier, gluing green felt in the bottom of the drawers and placing three hinges on the doors instead of two. He constructed the cabinet of Arkansas red oak instead of birch. The Arkansas red oak is much heavier and he thought the three hinges would make for better support of the doors. I plan on enjoying the cabinet for many years to come.” Thank you again, Bonnie Langston
Fire Truck Pedal Car (Plan No. 899) “This is my first experience with your company. I built my grandson a fire truck and found the instructions easy to read. I will use you folks again.” Ken Johnson (Mr. Johnson saw the Fire Truck project in the Charlotte Observer.)
Small Windmill (Plan No. 912) “I am prompted to write this letter to you in order to express the fun, enjoyment, and as it turned out, the therapy received while building five windmills--Christmas presents for my son and four grandsons. It all started quite by accident while shopping for sandpaper in a local woodworkers shop. Being an inquisitive wood butcher I was prompted to look around the store to see if there were any innovations available that I might use in my little shop. My gaze was almost immediately drawn to a revolving showcase displaying a variety of do-it-yourself plans and craft ideas. Your Small Windmill design shone like a bright light amidst a forest of others. So much so, that I was prompted to pick it up and check it over. Five minutes later I found myself driving down the highway thinking about the design of your windmill and whether or not I had all the necessary tools and equipment to build it. This thought was indeed short lived, during lunch on the way home I opened the packet and put most of my questions to rest. I must compliment you on the clarity of design and detail that lends itself to making an otherwise difficult job fun and enjoyment. Needless to say, by the time I had reached home I had decided to go ahead with this project and build one. Interestingly, at dinner that night I told my wife that I had decided to build a windmill and give to our son for his Christmas present. She thought this was a wonderful idea and quickly inquired why not build five of them and give to each of our grandsons for Christmas. My wife obviously did not realize the amount of work involved. I must admit after considerable soul searching and a quick look at the calendar I decided I would go ahead and build five. Believing from your design, you are not only a designer but a woodworker, you can well imagine how the wheels started turning in my noggin. Building five presented an altogether [different] approach than I would have employed building just one. In any event I started out making templates for all the component parts, buying all the material, and ordering all the other items the local lumber yard could not supply. In quick succession all of the hexagon assemblies were cut out and glued using outdoor glue. I then set about making jigs for the assembly and gluing of the blades as captioned in Pattern #7, and the locating and gluing of all windows and doorways. Not having a lathe at my disposal for the turning required in item "Q", I cut the end 3/4" square, scribed a 3/4" circle around the end, trimmed the square end to a full 3/4" round, and finished it off using a 3/4" dowel cutter. With these items in hand I then completed the layout, cutting and sanding of the remaining component parts. Alas, it was at this juncture in the construction of the windmills, that my wife and I had a terrible automobile accident. My wife fortunately obtained multiple bruises and a broken finger, while I was the recipient of a broken neck. Our car was totaled. My wife was discharged from the hospital in a few days and I thirty days later. For the next twenty days I continued to wear a heavy neck collar and could not do much of anything. A soft collar was then prescribed as I got more and more antsy, wanting to get back to my windmills and still being unable to do so. I am learning from first hand experience that the traumatic result from an accident of this magnitude is truly hard to put into perspective. Christmas was then at hand, so I wrote a letter to my son and each of my grandsons advising them that their Christmas presents were being delayed until the middle of February 04. Finally after another twenty days the soft collar was removed and I was permitted to do simple things on the windmills that did not require putting a strain on my neck etc., etc. Hence, the therapy referred to in the beginning of this letter. Little by little, week by week my strength returned, sufficient to complete the building of the five windmills. Amidst all my gloom and doom, perhaps my wife set the matter straight, when she said how many people do you know at age eighty-nine that have survived such an accident?” David T. Williamson
Rocking Whale (Plan No. 913) “Nice project--my grandson loved it.” Art Lonsch
Twin Seater (Plan No. 917) “This was a Saturday project. We bought the Twin Seater pattern and decided to just shorten it up and add a chair. We made it out of cedar and gave it a coat of sealer. Very much enjoyed this project!” Thanks! Kenneth Keeney
Kitchen Island (Plan No. 932) “Just a note to let you know I just finished the Kitchen Island project in pine and my wife and I are thrilled with the results. Thanks for a sound plan!” Stan Feinberg
Birdhouse Assortment (Plan No. C12) “This boy was into building model airplanes. I got him interested in building birdhouses and other items working with wood. Ben is 14 years old. I am 89 years old and still working with many of your plans.” Leornard Stadtmiller
Birdhouse Assortment (Plan No. C12) “Enclosed is a picture of the Martin House birdhouse I built from your plans. It made a big hit in the neighborhood. The plans were easy to follow.” Ralph Amendola
Adirondack Quartet (Plan No. C64) “Enclosed is a picture of a recently completed project using your pattern No. C64 for Adirondack chairs and table. I made two chairs, one footstool and a small table for my daughter-in-law. She is absolutely delighted. As usual, your patterns were precise, easy to use and made the project a pleasant and rewarding experience.” C. Paul Gregory |
